ATTRACTING BIRDS TO YOUR BACKYARD
Do the birds in your neighborhood seem to prefer your neighbor’s yard or a vacant lot to your yard? With some proper planning and native plantings, you can turn your backyard into an attractive wildlife habitat that offers year round shelter and food for the birds. This is a fun project for the entire family that can give you years of pleasure and benefit the natural environment at the same time.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department has a Backyard Wildlife Habitat Certification Program that offers some excellent materials that will help you plan your wildscape. Places as small as a high-rise balcony and as large as a ranch have met the requirements. Even if you don’t apply for the certification, the materials you receive will help you transform your backyard. Go to the TP&WD website to get more information on how to become certified. https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/wildlife_diversity/wildscapes/wildscape_certification.phtml
